Who Is God? The Mysteries of God and the Triune Godhead

The central message conveyed to humanity in the Old and New Testament of the Holy Bible is that there is only one God. However, how He exist, and His nature is very complex to many who believe and understand the existence of God. There are many Scripture verses about the nature of God. God is a Spirit and there is but one God. Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. God is one essence not three persons or three parts. God cannot be divided into parts. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are personal characteristics personalities within the nature of God.

The following Scripture verses are taken from the Old and New Testament of the Holy Bible revealing the different titles, positions, and operations of Jesus Christ who is God in the flesh. (John 1: 1,14)

God is Creator. Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being.” (Genesis 2:7). Job 33:4 and Psalm 33:6 said, “The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.” “By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.”

God Is a Spirit

“But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built!” (1 Kings 8:27)

“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in  spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:23-24)

“Am I a God near at hand,” says the LORD, “And not a God a far off? Can anyone hide himself in secret places, I shall not see him?” says the LORD, “Do I not fill heaven and earth?” says the LORD.” (Jeremiah 23:23-24)

“Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands.” (Psalm 102:25)

You LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You remain, and they will all grow old like a garment; like a cloak You will fold them up, and they will be changed. But You are the same, and Your years will not fail.” (Hebrews 1:10-12)

God Is a Spirit (Continued)

“The Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says: ‘Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool. What house will you build for Me? says

the LORD, or what is the place of My rest? Has My hand not made all these things?’” (Acts 7: 48-50) More Scripture verses … Acts 17:24-28; Psalm 139:7-12; Psalm 102:25; Isaiah 66:1, 2

God Is One God

“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one!” (Deuteronomy 6:4)

“I am the LORD, and there is no other. There is no God beside Me. I will gird you, though you have not known Me, that they may know from the rising of the sun to its setting that there is no other besides Me. I am the LORD, and there is no other; I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create calamity; I, the LORD, do all these things. Rain down, you heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness, let the earth open, let them bring froth salvation, I, the LORD, have created it.” (Isaiah 45:5-8)

“After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, ‘Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.’ Immediately I was n the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone, in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. (Revelation 4:1-3)

Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones, I saw twenty-four elders sitting, in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads. And from the throne proceeded lightning, thundering, and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. (Revelation 4:4-5)

Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back. The first living creature was like a lion, the second living creature like a calf, the third living creature had a face like a man, and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle. The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: ‘Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!’ (Revelation 4:6-8)

The twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: You are

“For unto us a Child is born, unto to us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder.” (Isaiah 9:6)

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and dwell among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:1,14)

“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up in glory.” (1 Timothy 3:16)

“But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law.” (Galatians 4:4)

“But made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.” (Philippians 2:7-8)

“For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize wit our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. (Hebrews 4:15)

“But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. Therefore, He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7:24-25)

(More Scripture verses … Luke 2:6-7; Acts 17:31; Galatians 4:4; I Timothy 2:5)

Conclusion

So, what can we say about God and the triune Godhead? First, there is only one invisible God with mysterious functions in His nature of operation regarding how He chose to reveal Himself to humankind. Second, Jesus Christ is 100% God and 100% Man and is the fullness of the Godhead incarnate. He is God the Father – The Jehovah of the Old Testament – who came to the earth in human form. God was manifested in Jesus Christ and came to the earth in human form. God was manifested in Jesus Christ and came to the earth to supply all of our needs. Again, Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior, the only God in heaven who offers us the gift of Salvation and eternal life. To truly understand the mysteries of the Godhead, you must allow the LORD God to continually speak to you through the Holy Spirit and His Holy Scripture.

“Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And on some have compassion, making a distinction; but others are with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating ever the garment defiled by the flesh. Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to prevent you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen.” (Jude 21-25)

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You today seeking wisdom and understanding about Your true nature. We know that You are a triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – yet this concept is beyond our human comprehension. As it is written in Proverbs 2:6, “For the LORD gives wisdom: from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” We ask that You open our hearts and minds to the truth of Your Word. Help us to understand the mystery of the Trinity, that while You are one God, You exist in three persons or operations within the Godhead. May we come to know you more fully as our Father, and experience Your love through Your Son Jesus Christ, and feel Your presence through the Holy Spirit.

There is only One God. This doctrine is the central message in the Old Testament and the New Testament of the Holy Bible. Lord, we know that within those claiming to be Christians there are several views as to the nature of the Godhead. The view called the trinitarianism believe that there are three distinct persons in the Godhead. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit – but one God. Another view, called monotheists believe in one God, but further believe that the fullness of the Godhead is manifested in Jesus Christ – that the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit are offices or relationships that the one God has displayed to humans. The doctrine of one God is found in Deuteronomy 6:4: “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD.” This Scripture verse is the most important statement of faith for the Jewish people.

Prayer (Continued)

Lord, please guide us on our journey of faith and help us to grow in our understanding of Your infinite love and majesty. We pray all these things in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

May this prayer guide you in your quest for understanding the nature of God. Remember, God is always with you. God bless you. Amen.

Scripture verses are taken from the New King James Version of the Holy Bible.
