NEW VIDEO: ENGAGING HEALTHCARE TEAMS TO ELIMINATE HEALTH INEQUITIES

The Office of Health Equity [1] announces the availability of a 3 minute
video, Engaging Healthcare Teams to Eliminate Health Inequities,
developed by a team led by Leslie Hausmann Ph.D. of the VA Pittsburgh
[2] Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion [3]. Dr. Kameron
Matthews, Chief Medical Officer of VHA, commented, “This is a nice
introduction to building equity into clinical care as VA moves
aggressively to support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.” The video

Predictive algorithms both inside and outside of VA do not always
accurately represent risks of poor health outcomes in minority
populations. This Cyberseminar will use two existing VA algorithms, the
Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention’s Stratification Tool
for Opioid Risk Mitigation and CAN Scores, to describe racial and ethnic
algorithmic bias assessment methods and highlight strategies that can be
used in development and evaluation of population-based risk
stratification tools to help ameliorate unfairness.

Presenters:

Amol Navathe, MD, PhD
Staff Physician, Core Investigator, Center for Health Equity and
Research Promotion Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center in
Philadelphia. He is an Assistant Professor of Health Policy and Medicine
and a Senior Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute for Health Economics
at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Navathe is also the Co-Director
of the Health Transformation Institute and the Director of the Payment
Insights Team [7] at the University of Pennsylvania.

Ravi B. Parikh, MD, MPP
Staff Physician, Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center and an
Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Ethics and Health
Policy and Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Parikh is a
practicing oncologist with expertise in delivery system reform and
informatics.

Suzanne Tamang, PhD, MS
Research Associate, Veterans Health Administration, VA Palo Alto;
Instructor, Department of Biomedical Data Science, Stanford University
School of Medicine; Research Economist, National Bureau of Economic
Review; Intramural Investigator, National Institutes of Health;
Assistant Faculty Director of Data Science, Stanford Center for
Population Health Sciences.

The Office of Health Equity is pleased to announce the inclusion of
COVID vaccination information in our VISN COVID-19 Equity Information
Briefs and COVID Equity Tool. The VISN COVID-19 Equity Information
Briefs [10] updated through March 3, 2021 are available with specific
information for each VA VISN. These one-page documents provide quick
access to:

* COVID vaccinations and vaccine refusals for each VAMC
* Case summaries by county
* Disparities alerts
* Recommended actions
* Charts and maps of cases

The OHE COVID-19 and Health Equity SharePoint [10] also provides access
to COVID-19 screening tools, information briefs (current and past), and
guidance for specific equity populations.

COVID Equity Tool [11] updated through March 3, 2021. View VA
vaccination and positive test rates by race/ethnicity. This interactive
report allows you to customize the map and chart data by selecting a
