The National Association of American Veterans, Inc. will serve as one of the Community Partners with the Washington, D.C., Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Veterans Mental Health Events scheduled for 2018 in Washington, D.C. The purpose of these events is to provide assistance to Veterans and their families at all levels of the mental health care system. The event provides a forum for attendees to express their views and opinions without fear of reprisal about VA mental health services offered to them from the Department of Veterans Affairs and within the community. NAAV has been a Community Partner in support of service members, Veterans, and their families for 14 years.
Most of the events will be held at the DC VAMC, and others will be held at George Washington University, 2121 I Street, NW, Washington, D.C. NAAV will be a participant in the following events to held in 2018.
- The Winterhaven Homeless Stand Down will be held on January 27, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This annual event addresses the needs of homeless Veterans and will provide health assessments and on-site basic medical care, benefits, housing, and employment assistance.
- The Certified Mental Health First Aid Training Course will be held on March 29, 2018, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This training is used to assist and help a Veteran or anyone who may be facing a mental health crisis. The certification is good for three years.
- The Military Sexual Trauma Summit will be held on April 18, 2018, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This will be the Veterans Mental Health Advisory Council’s first military sexual trauma summit.
The Mental Health and Information Fair is scheduled for May 2018 or June 2018 and will focus on such topics as mental illness, wellness, nutrition, employment, and finance. This event will include a keynote speaker and workshops.
