My Soul Thirst for the Living God

The Scripture says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing as under of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). God’s Word is quick, alive, and very powerful than any two-edged sword. The Bible is truly our road map for our journey while on earth. Psalms 42:1-2 says, “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.”

God Himself is the subject of our earthly thirst (Psalm 63:1) just as He is our righteousness, knowledge, and power. The living God is regarded as our fountain or source of life. (Psalm 84:2) However, statements life the one in Revelation 7:16, “They shall hunger no more, neither thirst,” speaks of the state of a perfect spiritual condition that leads to perfect and continued spiritual health and satisfaction that exists in heaven in the presence of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, the Great High Priest.

Scripture Verses for Meditation:

“O GOD, You are my God; early will I seek You; my soul thirst for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.” (Psalm 63:1)

“My soul longs, yes, even faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.” (Psalm 84:2)

“Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him for the help of His countenance.” (Psalm 42:5)

“The Mighty One, God the LORD, has spoken and called earth from the rising of the sun to its going down.” (Psalm 50:1)

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.” (Isaiah 43:2)

“But the LORD is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath, the earth will tremble, and the nations will not be able to endure His indignation.” (Jeremiah 10:10)

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” (Matthew 5:6)

“O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth!” (Psalm 8:9)

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Your holy Word is forever settled in heaven and on earth. O LORD, my soul and my heart rest in Your promises and ever-loving care. Lord, I will walk in Your Word always, knowing that You care for me. Lord, thank You for Your guidance and direction. Father God, I am thankful for Your Word, and I desire to walk in the light of Your Word forever. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
