Today’s American Red Cross is keeping pace with the changing military.
Using the latest in computer and telecommunications technology, the Red
Cross allows military members stationed all over the world to send
messages to loved ones back home during an emergency or other important
event. These communications are delivered around-the-clock, seven days a
week, 365 days a year. While serving 1.4 million active duty personnel,
the Red Cross also reaches out to the 1.5 million members of the
National Guard and the Reserves who reside in nearly every local
community in America. Both active duty and community-based military can
count on the Red Cross to provide emergency communications that link
them with their families back home, access to financial assistance,
counseling and assistance to veterans.
The American Red Cross Central Atlantic Division is seeking a SAF
Program Director. This position can be based anywhere in the Central
Atlantic Division which is: Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C.,
Delaware, Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky. This is a remote/work from
home position. You must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to
travel as needed.
Job Summary:
Provide guidance, support and assistance for Red Cross offices to
establish, grow and maintain Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) core
services. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all
volunteers. Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with
standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State and
local regulations.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide guidance, support and assistance to ensure SAF services are
carried out in accordance with specified Red Cross policies and
procedures within assigned area. Evaluate the effectiveness of programs
and services and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
Provide operational oversight of special projects or events. Conduct
training and education to ensure staff and volunteers can successfully
perform duties and represent Red Cross and SAF in their communities.
Provide oversight and management of MOUs pertaining to SAF service
within the Division to ensure they meet DoD and Red Cross MOU
guidelines.
2. Build strong relationships with key community organizations and
leaders. Increase community awareness, participation, and commitment to
the Red Cross by ensuring regular local media communications to the
community regarding SAF activities. Develop and support Red Cross
relationships within the Division with organizations, community partner
groups, military commands and military family programs.
3. Collaborate with internal departments to help ensure smooth overall
operations and articulate support and guidance needs. Participate in the
strategic planning process to support the delivery, sustainment and
growth of services and programs within the Division. Serve as liaison to
leadership, providing information regarding current policies and
procedures, including the delivery of SAF programs and services. Work
with management to ensure programs and services are implemented
consistently within division. Work to develop and implement volunteer
program plans.
4. Develop, coordinate, and enforce departmental systems, policies,
procedures, programs, and productivity standards. Making deployment and
relocation decisions.

Individual contributor and acknowledged expert both within the
organization as well as within other organizations. Participate in
industry/knowledge reference groups. Master of a specialized discipline
and thorough understanding of a number of disciplines. May also require
development of new solutions for complex projects.

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience: Minimum 10 years of related experience or equivalent
combination of education and related experience required.
Management Experience: n/a
Skills & Abilities: Proven track record of collaboration, facilitation,
leadership and partnership management. Strong interpersonal skills and
the ability to work with multiple priorities are essential. Familiarity
with military culture, regulations and protocol is strongly desired.
Experience with American Red Cross programs and services are desired.
Must be able to operate independently, with initiative, and manage an
assigned area of responsibility, with minimal supervision. Strong
computer skills are required. Public speaking skills and the ability to
communicate effectively verbally and in writing are required. Ability to
work on a team.
Travel: Travel may be required.
