On Thursday, September 13, 2018, the Women’s Congressional Policy Institute in cooperation with Representatives Susan Brooks and Lois Frankel, Co-Chairs for the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues, and Representatives Mimi Walters and Brenda Lawrence, Vice-Chairs of the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues, sponsored a lunch briefing, “Mid-Life and Older Women’s Health,” at the Rayburn House Office Building. Guest Speakers Nakela Cook, MD, MPH, Chief of Staff and Senior Scientific Officer, Immediate Office Director, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health, and JoAnn V. Pinkerton, MD, FACOG, NCMP, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Virginia Health System, Executive Director, North American Menopause Society updated information on sex and gender influences on the Cardiovascular heath of women and women’s midlife health after age 50. In addition, statistical information was presented on the leading causes of death among females of all ages; racial disparities in health; screening controversies; risk factors; depressive disorders specific to women; individual’s risk of suicide; substance abuse, and other life difficulties.
