Subject: Update for St. Joseph’s Veterans program

Dear provider,

This email serves as an update to our Col. C. David Merkel, MD Veterans Residence Program. As of December 1st, 2016 our Program became one of the first certified by OASAS as a 25-bed 820 Residential services program, with the specific mission of serving male veterans with substance use and co-occurring psychiatric problems, often including Post-Traumatic Stress and histories of trauma. This certification represents a change in the levels of care we provide and expands our continuum to include those who may need withdrawal management, residential treatment, and a safe reintegration environment.

We have implemented all three elements of the OASAS 820 Residential services which are as follows; Stabilization, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration. We are a comprehensive and holistic program which provides a safe and healthy environment throughout a longer treatment episode. We provide more individualized treatment to those in need of higher and lower levels of care. Our services center upon: evidence-based, trauma-informed therapeutic approaches, recreation and sober socialization skills, physical health restoration and somatic therapies, fostering independence, reintegration with family and community, educational and vocational assistance.

Our facility is a Congregate Care Level II Residential facility that is now accepting third-party insurance for payment. Our admission process is simple and confidential. Prospective veterans across New York State including service members from any branch of the military, any length of service and regardless of their discharge status may call us on their own, or be referred by case managers, physicians, employers, school personnel, legal representatives, insurance companies, and loved ones. We have immediate openings at the Merkel Veterans Residential Program.
